Shane Gallagher: Journey of an Electrician
I'm Shane Gallagher, a registered electrician in New Zealand. My journey in electrical work began over 15 years ago in the UK, where I embarked on a four-year apprenticeship immediately after completing school. Throughout my apprenticeship, I gained experience in both residential and commercial environments, laying the foundation for my career.
Following my qualification, I seized an opportunity to apply my skills in the tunnelling industry, which provided me with invaluable electrical knowledge. This path led me to work in various countries, including Egypt and Holland, broadening my expertise and cultural experiences.
During a project in London, fate introduced me to a wonderful Kiwi woman in a bar. After some discussion and compromise, we decided to make New Zealand our home. Now, our family includes two young children and a beloved King Charles dog.
Upon settling in New Zealand, I dedicated a year to transferring my qualifications and becoming registered while working for a prominent electrical company in Wellington. Over three years with this company, I contributed to large-scale new build projects, honing my skills and preparing myself for the next chapter.
Driven by my passion for the industry and my desire to leave a positive impact wherever I go, I decided to venture out on my own. With my diverse professional background and unwavering dedication, my goal is to elevate every environment I work in, ensuring it's better than when I arrived.
